Montour Flat Rocks(1).jpg

Courtney Montour’s Documentary Short is concise and powerful, using narration and poetry in the Kanien'kéha language to tell the story of Louis Dablo, a 79 year old farmer who battled against the construction of the Saint Lawrence Seaway in the 1950s. Montour weaves together present day footage of Kahnawa:ke with archival film taken before the Seaway’s construction, visually documenting the effect of the infrastructure project on people’s homes, land and lives. The film was directed and produced by Courtney Mounter, a Kahnawa’kehró:non documentarian from Kahnawa:ke. - SL
